Chaperone Policy

Our policy

At Aspiro GP Practice, we are committed to making sure every patient feels safe, respected and comfortable during their care.

You have the right to request a chaperone, a trained member of staff who will be present during any examination or procedure, at any time. You do not need to give a reason for this request.

A chaperone will always be offered before any intimate examination. Intimate examinations include any examination of the breasts, genitalia or rectum. A chaperone will be offered regardless of the gender of the clinician or patient.

For patients under the age of 18, a trained chaperone will always be present during intimate examinations.

If a chaperone is not immediately available and you have requested one, we will rearrange your appointment for a time when one can be present. We will never proceed with an intimate examination without a chaperone if you have requested one.

If you have any concerns about your care or would like to speak to someone about this policy, please ask at reception or speak to your clinician.

They have to be two distinct policies as one is a commitment to staff and the other is to our patients.
